Sorry, Melissa McBride: Scandal Wins Over Walking Dead at Critics’ Choice TV Awards

She’s still the winner in our book!

The 2014 Critics' Choice Awards failed aired last night, and The Walking Dead's Melissa McBride (Carol Peletier) did not win Best Supporting Actress in a Drama Series. She was in a tough category, and in this case the old chestnut “it’s an honor just to be nominated” is 100 percent true.

Here’s the category breakdown:

Christine Baranski, The Good Wife

Anna Gunn, Breaking Bad

Annet Mahendru, The Americans

Melissa McBride, The Walking Dead

Maggie Siff, Sons of Anarchy

WINNER — Bellamy Young, Scandal

As you can see, Bellamy won for playing Mellie Grant. She’s a great choice too, but we thought that if Melissa didn’t win it would be because the Critics chose to honor Anna Gunn in the last gasp of Breaking Bad. But Bryan Cranston didn’t even win for Breaking Bad, so …

Anyway, we were just happy to see Melissa’s name make the nomination list, since these awards shows rarely recognize the acting talents of the Walking Dead stars. In fact, the Emmy Awards have never nominated anyone from the cast. We’re dying to see at least one TWD star’s name make the cut when the 2014 Emmy nominations are revealed — pretty soon, actually, on July 10.

Send all your positive vibes into the universe that Melissa and/or any of these worthy stars from Season 4 make the cut for this year’s Emmys. In the meantime, Melissa — you looked beautiful last night, and it’s possible they just pulled a John Travolta when reading Bellamy’s name and meant yours!

The Walking Dead Season 5 premieres in October on AMC.
