Pretty Little Liars Speculation: Ali Was The Woman in Black
Have you heard? Alison DiLaurentis (Sasha Pieterse) is alive and well — er, well enough — on Pretty Little Liars. Makes one awfully suspicious of all the masked figures that have been hanging around Rosewood the past few seasons, don’t you think? One of the most recent mystery figure was the woman dressed all in black at Wilden’s funeral in Season 4, Episode 1 (“‘A’ is for A-L-I-V-E”). Was Ali the Woman in Black?
We can’t imagine there is often a scenario as public as Wilden’s funeral in Rosewood. Almost everyone in town was there. Paired with the fact that black veils are perfectly acceptable to wear to a funeral and you have the perfect scenario for spying. But, why would Alison risk it? There are a few very good reasons that come to our mind. One: she needed to talk to someone who was going to be at the funeral, but didn’t necessarily trust him or her. Two: She wanted to see her loved ones up close and personal after so long on the run. Risky, we know, but give the girl a break. She had to leave behind everyone she knew and loved. Three: Wilden was one of the harassers who caused Ali to fake her own death, and she wanted to make sure the jerk was dead. This one seems the most likely to us, given that Wilden was a total creep who often threatened the Liars and who seemed obsessed with finding out what happened to Ali. Perhaps he even knew Ali was still alive and was hunting for her à la “A.”
On the other hand, planting yourself smack dab in the middle of town that thinks you’re dead? Risky. Why would Alison go through all of that trouble of faking her own death only to risk it by coming to a town funeral. Wilden sucked, but it’s probably not worth spitting on his grave or whatever. The Woman in Black didn’t try to talk to the Liars or glare disapprovingly at Jenna. Besides, Ali’s color is red.
If the Woman in Black wasn’t one DiLaurentis sister, who’s to say she wasn’t the other one — aka Courtney, Ali’s twin sister in the book series? PLL has dropped many a clue about the possibility that Alison had a sister, and we think it makes a lot of sense. If Courtney was the Woman in Black, what was she doing there? Well, like Alison, she probably has some kind of vested interest in the people of Rosewood and especially the Liars. Like Alison, she can’t show her face in Rosewood. And, like Alison, she presumably has enemies — potentially, she is at odds with her very own sister. It’s hard to speculate about why Courtney might be the Woman in Black because we don’t know much about this possible-character, but we do think there’s something poetic about The Woman in Black and Red Coat being two sides of the same twin coin.
