Katherine Pierce (Nina Dobrev) is having the zaniest year. First, the sassy Vampire Diaries villain turned human again after 500 years as a vamp. Then, a 2,000-year-old witch drank her blood to turn mortal — and she survived it. Now, it looks like the age and trauma are finally starting to show. Is Katherine finally dying? We speculate below.
So far, the evidence that Katherine may be very slowly biting the dust has been relatively innocent, but convincing. Hours after she survived Silas’ drain and The Cure presumably left her system, a tuft of her hair turned old-lady grey. Later that afternoon, she full-on lost a molar whilst mowing down on some sandwiches. Tooth loss and greying hair are signs of an aging process that seems to be progressing relatively quickly considering Katherine has only been cure-less a day. At this rate, she could be dead by the end of the week.
She’s totally dying
It makes sense that Katherine would have to pay for all of those years of cheating death. After all, the universe in this fictional world seems to be all about balance. The mortal doppelgangers were born into the world again and again to account for the immortal Silas and Amara who had unnaturally lived for over 2,000 years. Even though Katherine hasn’t said “screw you” to the universe with her very existence quite as long, that doesn’t mean the ‘verse hasn’t been itching to gets its hand on her. We think Katherine should seriously reconsider Damon’s offer to turn her back into a vampire.
But that doesn’t mean she’ll die
TVD rarely follows a plot line through to its predictable conclusion and, right now, it seems likely that Katherine is destined for death. Which means, the sly minx has a pretty good chances at living. Perhaps, salvation will come in the form of Dr. Wes Maxfield, aka the only person she has told the secret of her intense aging. She hopes the brilliant young professor will be able to figure out what’s wrong with her and stop it, and we think he might be able to, too — though, at a price. Even if Dr. Wes doesn’t pull through, we’re guessing Katherine will find a way to save herself. It’s basically her superpower (especially now that she doesn’t actually have any other superpowers.)
Do you think Katherine is dying? Do you think she will die. Sound off in the comments below!
