Pretty Little Liars Speculation: Wren Is Helping Ali
We’ve been working through the likeliest suspects for who has helped Alison DiLaurentis (Sasha Pieterse) fake her death on Pretty Little Liars. The super shady Rosewood doctor and sometimes stalker, Wren Kingston (Julian Morris) might not seem the type, but we think he may be the one keeping Ali clued into Rosewood’s goings-on, and here’s why.
We’ve always found Wren’s attachment to the Liars mighty suspicious, but maybe we have been wrong about the source of his motivations. Perhaps, he isn’t spending so much time hanging with teenage girls because he’s an “A” Teamer, but because he promised Ali he would watch over her besties. So far, he has only ever been kind to the Liars with arguably one exception: getting Veronica Hastings to recuse herself from Ashley Marin’s defense team. This only makes sense as a good guy move if Veronica herself is an “A” Teamer or some other kind of nefarious allegiance. Hey, stranger things have happened in Rosewood!
We’ve spent a lot of time trying to dissect the intense convo Wren had with Mona, aka the Original “A,” when she was in Radley after confessing to Wilden’s murder. She told Wren that she trusted him “before [she] realized where his loyalties lie.” We love this comment, because Wren’s loyalties really could lie anywhere — he’s that much of a wild card — but it tells us that, at one point, he had Mona’s trust. If Wren is truly on Ali’s side, then he could have been playing double agent since the beginning, gaining Mona’s (and even Melissa’s) trust in order to funnel information back to Ali.
We’ve been working on a little theory: Alison has been using the abandoned ward at Radley as living quarters— at least when she’s in Rosewood. If this is the case, it makes sense that Wren is helping her. Even if Wren didn’t know Alison before she faked her death or even before he started working at Radley, then the two could have met in the mental health facility. Perhaps, Wren inadvertently caught Ali one day in the abandoned ward, and she earned his trust and help. Ali can be pretty convincing when she needs to be.
In Season 4, Episode 10 (“The Mirror Has Three Faces”), we see Wren breaking out his artistic skills to color in a picture of a girl in a red coat. We now know Alison is Red Coat. If Wren has been meeting Alison in secret, she would probably be wearing that red coat. Or, perhaps, the picture itself was some kind of code. When Wren leaves the colored-in image somewhere in Radley, Ali knows to come find him... Or maybe we watch too many spy dramas.
