Watch Spencer Lloyd Sing “Love Don’t Die” in American Idol 2014 Rush Week
Much like the earlier parts of this year of American Idol, Season 13 is full of twists and turns that we’ve never seen before. Replacing Vegas Round is the all-new Rush Week, a highly-emotional, intensive round which promises to narrow down our Top 31 to the remaining 13 who will compete for our votes in the finals.
Not all of the contestants will sing for the country, however. As we saw on last night’s stress-inducing episode (February 18), only 10 of the 15 ladies got to take the stage, while the others were sent home brokenhearted. Tonight it’s the guys’ turn to start biting their nails as they wait to see who will get called to the stage.
Last to perform for the audience is 19-year-old Spencer Lloyd, who wowed the judges in Hollywood with his soulful rendition of “Say Something.” This time, however, he wants to step away from the security of an instrument, so he ditches his guitar for a rendition of “Love Don’t Die” by The Fray. Will his instrument-free performance pay off in the eyes of the judges?
“Your song choice is gonna be really, really important as you go through,” says Keith. “I don’t know that that was your best vocal tonight, but sitting here and watching everyone’s faces looking up at you, [your star quality] is undeniable.”
