Grey’s Anatomy Spin-Off? 4 More Ideas That Could Work!
Grey's Anatomyhas already spawned one successful spin-off, Private Practice, but the mothership show is so addicting it actually outlasted the show that came second. Could there be another spin-off down the line? While showrunner Shonda Rhimes says nothing's in the works right now, she also seemed open to the idea for the future.
Of course, that got us thinking about what spin-offs Grey's could spawn — and which we'd really like to see.
Grey's meets MASH. The example Shonda herself brought up was a war-based doctor drama, inspired by the episode about Owen's history. We gotta say, we actually think Shonda could do great things with a show like that. As she's proven with Scandal, she can handle politically laced material, and this would allow her to combine that with her tried-and-true medical plot of the week formula.
MerDer move East. Before the plane crash changed everything, Meredith and Derek were thinking of packing up and shipping out to the East Coast so Derek could be closer to his family. While we don't want Meredith and Derek to leave Grey's, if and when the original comes to an end, we'd actually be very interested in a more family-focused show about Mer and Der moving back East, struggling to reconnect with his family while raising their children. Think Grey's meets Parenthood.
Cristina Yang: The Show. While we're sure Sandra Oh wants a chance to play a different character after she peaces out of Grey's at the end of the year, we'd leap at the chance to see her star in her own show all about high-stakes heart surgeries and the cut throat surgeons who perform them.
First Responders. Shonda Rhimes has spent 10 years with docs in a hospital, and five with docs in a private practice. It would be fun for her to take the medicine on the road, with a show focused on first responders — for instance, we wouldn't say no to seeing what hottie Matthew does after April inevitably drops him for Jackson.
