We only have slightly more than 48 hours before The Walking Dead Season 4 premiere airs on AMC, but we’ll have to wait until 2015 before we’re able to catch a glimpse of the highly-anticipated spin-off, which has yet to be titled.
Because the spin-off is so far into the future, those closest to the project have kept practically everything under wraps, so far only divulging what it won’t be about. However, during an interview with The Hollywood Reporter, TWD executive producer Gale Anne Hurd opened up a bit about how the spin-off was born and what future viewers are in store for.
“It came from AMC. This is something we would all like to do. Robert [Kirkman] has always been interested in expanding the world and doing something quite different than what he was doing in the book.”
Different indeed. “It won't deal with any of the characters from the book or the TV series,” Gale continued.
In other words, this yet-to-be-titled series will have an entirely new cast of characters, and Robert Kirkman and co. will be free to write whatever they want, without feeling pressured to pull certain storylines from the beloved comics.
Honestly, we couldn’t be more psyched about the spin-off. Robert has struck gold twice with TWD, and we love that he’ll be able to work on something completely different this time around. As far as we know the new show will still be rooted in the post apocalyptic world. but we doubt it will be set in Atlanta since Gale has made it clear there will be no crossover.
