Pretty Little Liars Spoilers: Aria Is a “Woman Scorned” After Ezra’s Betrayal

The end of last night’s Pretty Little Liars left Aria (Lucy Hale) in processing mode following Ezra’s confession that he not only dated Alison before she disappeared, but has been writing a book about it ever since. But it doesn’t sound like Aria is going to stay passive for long. What did executive producer Oliver Goldstick tell E! Online about her upcoming transition into anger?

“Ezra beats her heart into butter, the poor thing,” Oliver said. “The one thing I'll say is, Aria is a woman scorned. She's really angry and she's not going to just take it passively. I'm not saying she becomes a kettle of crazy, but she does lose it. This betrayal is in such a large scale that she acts out — and rightfully so!”

If the promo for Season 4, Episode 21 (“She’s Come Undone”) is any indication, Ezra’s apartment takes the brunt of it. (Watch out, typewriter!) Is it wrong that we’re a little excited to see this storyline develop? Don’t get us wrong, it was heartbreaking to watch Aria react to Ezra’s confessions, but it also gave Lucy Hale a chance to break out the old acting chops, and she was great! On the surface, Pretty Little Liars may sometimes delve dangerously close to Lifetime Original Movie dramatics, but the emotions are always earned. It doesn’t feel like these characters are over-reacting to anything or that the show is lazily manipulating us into feeling for them. The Liars have been through a lot over the past four seasons, so of course their tears are justified.

It might be easier to see Aria go into a downward spiral if we keep in mind there’s a light at the end of the tunnel. We know from the promo pics for Season 4, Episode 22 (“Cover For Me”) that there’s a new man (Nick Roux) in Aria’s life. While this wouldn’t necessarily indicated emotional improvement on its own, Aria looks surprisingly happy in the photos we’ve seen. How does she pull herself out of her spiral so quickly? It usually takes Spencer at least three or four episodes!

How far do you think Aria will go to express her anger? Share your theories in the comments below!
