Damon Salvatore just can’t catch a break on The Vampire Diaries. First a psycho witch tells him that doppelgangers are destined to be together (as if), and now he’s at the mercy of creepy Dr. Wes and his Augustine vampire study. It looks like Season 5, Episode 9 (“The Cell”) is going to be a tough one for poor Damon.
“Tonight we have one of my favorite #TVD scenes ever..... and POOR DAMON!,” writer Caroline Dries tweeted on December 5. Poor Damon?! We know we’ll learn more info about the mysterious Augustine Society in “The Cell”, but we'll also get a sneak peek into Damon's troubling past as an Augustine vampire, and from the looks of it, it’s not going to be pleasant.
During the most recent episode of TVD, Damon’s past as number 20151 was alluded to, but “The Cell” will flashback to a time Damon would rather forget — 1953. Clearly, Damon endured mental and physical torture from his time as an Augustine lab rat alongside his cell buddy Enzo.
Ian Somerhalder teased “brutal” and “crazy” flashbacks in the episode, and his co-star Nina Dobrev even describes some of the scenes as “disgusting.” Eek! We definitely don’t want to see that! This is TVD, not American Horror Story, after all. “It was disgusting,” Nina told TV Line. “I’m not good at that kind of stuff and I hated watching it. I’ll probably have to close my eyes when I watch it on TV.”
Poor Damon, indeed. But luckily, Elena will realize he’s in trouble a heck of a lot faster than she did for Stefan. Suspecting that something’s wrong with Damon, she’ll turn to her new mysterious college buddy Aaron for help. Seeing how his legal guardian is Dr. Wes, he should be able to track him down… right?
We’ll have to wait and see how the Augustine drama unfolds, TVD fans! Are you excited for the episode? Sound off in the comments!
Catch the next episode of The Vampire Diaries on Thursday, December 5 at 8 p.m. ET on the CW.
