The Originals Spoilers: How Will Klaus React to Elijah and Hayley’s Relationship?

This season of The Originals is really picking up, and Episode 6 (“Fruit of the Poisoned Tree”) was pretty much hookup central. Not only did we finally get the steamy action we’ve been dying to get from Rebekah (Claire Holt) and Marcel (Charles Michael Davis), but we also saw a relationship blossom between Elijah (Daniel Gillies) and Hayley (Phoebe Tonkin).

Creator Julie Plec spoke with E! Online about the new relationship, offering up the reasoning behind it.

“Elijah, as you know, is a good protector and tends to be drawn to people, in spite of himself,” Julie says. “When you have a situation like that, he cares deeply about that child that she’s carrying and maybe is starting to have his own level of concern that it’s more than just the child that he’s protecting and caring for. It’s definitely not a good thing, but it’s fun to watch.”

We agree, Julie! We’re excited to finally see someone fulfilling Elijah’s wish to bring his family together, and it’s an added bonus that there are sparks flying between them. The only problem? This love interest is his brother Klaus’s (Joseph Morgan) baby mama. How will Klaus react to this drama?

“Whether you’ve watched The Vampire Diaries or not, even within this series, it’s very clear that Klaus is very territorial and that he likes what’s his to remain his,” Julie continues. “So, I have a feeling that will stir up a lot of conflicted emotions for him, as well. Rational or irrational, he never felt properly parented, loved or taken care of. When he starts to feel his family slipping away from him, or what he claims as his own finding their interests elsewhere, he tends to act out in ways that are not necessarily the most mature or appropriate.”

Uh-oh, hopefully this sibling rivalry won’t tear this family apart — again.

The Originals airs on Tuesday nights at 8 p.m. ET on The CW.
