Vampire Diaries Spoilers: Will We See Flashbacks of Enzo’s Past as a Human?

There’s still so much we don’t know about The Vampire DiariesEnzo (Michael Malarkey). How old is he? What was his life like before he became a vampire? When did he become a vampire? All questions ideally answered in TVD’s famous flashbacks! Is there any chance we’ll get some flashbacks into Enzo’s past? Michael weighs in...

“I would absolutely love that,” Michael told Zap2it, echoing our feelings on the subject. “They only tell us a certain amount because things are constantly shifting as they go along. I have my own personal backstory that I've created but it changes if I get a script and I see, ‘Oh, this is what happened,’ and I'll just shift my narrative to incorporate that. But I would love to know what their idea is for what exactly went on in Enzo's past. I love flashback episodes. They're so fun. You get to wear cool costumes and goofy wigs.”

Yes to goofy wigs! TVD can never have enough funny-haired flashbacks. This show could be all funny-haired flashback with just the occasional reference to some future time in Mystic Falls, and we would watch it. (And we’re still waiting for TVD’s very own “We have to go back, Kate” moment.)

Though asked, Michael wouldn’t share his own narrative of Enzo’s past, but he did express a very visually-specific idea of an Enzo flashback: “But yeah, how cool would that be to see Enzo as a human in like, 1800's London, walking around on the streets? That would be pretty sweet. I'd love that.”

We doubt TVD will have much time for Enzo flashbacks as they careen towards the Season 5 finale, but haven’t completely given up hope that Enzo will return for Season 6. Given that Enzo will, according to Michael, make “get[ting] the hell out of the Other Side in time” his number one priority, the future may not be as dismal as we thought for the “ghost villain.”

Do you want to see Enzo-themed flashbacks? What do you think his backstory looks like? Share your theories in the comments below!

The Vampire Diaries airs Thursday nights at 8 p.m. ET on The CW.
