Vampire Diaries Spoilers: Enzo Isn’t Gone For Good — He’s a “Ghost Villain”

We specifically requested Enzo (Michael Malarkey) make it to Vampire Diaries Season 6, so we were kind of figuratively disheartened to see the dashing vampire literally dis-heartened in last night’s ep. But wait! It turns out Enzo will be sticking around at least until the end of the season — as a “ghost villain.” What will he be up to?

"We purposefully had [Enzo] show up at the end as a ghost to imply that his story isn't over,” TVD executive producer Caroline Dries told The Hollywood Reporter. “He is going to become a ghost villain moving forward. We'll see him all the way through to the finale as the bad guy." Huzzah! Not an ideal solution (we were thinking Enzo and the fang gang could become best friends and all live happily ever after), but we’ll take it.

Apparently, we weren’t the only ones desperate to keep Enzo around. According to Caroline, Ian Somerhalder (Damon) “pulled me aside one day and he goes, 'If you kill Enzo, I'm going to quit.’” We’re just going to assume Damon-as-Ian compelled her — though he may end up regretting it. From the sounds of it, Enzo as ghost is less Casper and more Paranormal Activity...

"You can do a lot from the Other Side it turns out,” Caroline teased of Enzo’s plans to seek revenge on the Salvatore bros. “He's determined to make Damon's life and Stefan's life a living hell. We realize why and how he's able to do that, and it's because of what's happening on the Other Side that is giving him more liberties than some of the other ghosts have had."

Enzo’s storyline moving forward won’t be all about torturing Damon and Stefan. It will also be about giving viewers a better understanding of the infamous Other Side. Apparently, it’s not the best time to be in the supernatural purgatory given all of the the removals-by-vortex that are going down — or, more accurately, up. Enzo wants out and, when Damon learns the details of his situation, he pledges his support.

"Damon's going to promise Enzo [in the next episode] that he's going to help him get out of there,” Caroline teased. “He has a very clear drive of what he needs. As they're trying to help Enzo, they're also trying to help Bonnie and solve that problem of the Other Side and getting their friends out while they can." Twist: Damon has no idea how to help Enzo or the Other Side. Which doesn’t bode well for Enzo, or our Season 6 plans for the character…

Are you happy to hear Enzo will be around until the end of Season 5? Do you think Damon will find a way to save him? Sound off in the comments below!
