Ravenswood Spoilers: Expect “Seances and Cemeteries”

Considering the premiere of Ravenswood is only five weeks away, we still know relatively little about the Pretty Little Liars spin-off. The series will follow five teenagers (including PLL’s Caleb) who are connected by a town’s mysterious curse. What else do we know about the supernatural suspense drama? Well, showrunner Marlene King just tweeted this little tidbit...

“Ravenswood is even more of a grown up Now & Then than PLL is,” Marlene tweeted, a reference to the 1995 coming-of-age film she wrote. “Seances and cemeteries sound familiar?”

The mention of cemeteries isn’t so surprising considering this Ravenswood promo, which sees the five main characters racing into a cemetery. The cemetery already seems a common gathering place for the people of the Pennslyvanian town. In Season 4, Episode 6: “Under the Gun” of PLL, Spencer sees the Ravenswood townspeople gathering around the statue of an angel in the town cemetery. The meetup is prompting by the transmission of choir music from speakers mounted all around the town, like a call-to-prayer. Does this sort of thing happen everyday? Why is the cemetery, and specifically the angel statue, so important to the townspeople?

As for seances, we know that Caleb and Co. will be digging into the town’s history to learn more about this curse and how to escape it. We had thought this meant trolling through old newspapers on the library’s microfiche machines, but apparently seances are part of the research process, too. A seance is an attempt to communicate with spirits, and tends to involve chanting in a circle while surrounded by candles. Will the Ravenswood crew be chatting up the spirits in the town cemetery? We think so.

Are you surprised to hear there will be cemeteries and seances aplenty? How do you think they’ll come into play? Sound off in the comments below!

Catch the series premiere of Ravenswood on October 22 at 9 p.m. ET/PT on ABC Family.
