Vampire Diaries Spoilers: “A Few Dead Fan Favorites” Set to Return — But Who?

We’re spiraling towards the Season 5 finale of The Vampire Diaries, and you know what that means: plot twisty mayhem. E! Online has a look at the next few episodes in the TVD saga and the tease of “the return of a few (currently dead) fan favorites.” Who are they talking about?

“Something’s wrong over here, Bonnie,” Grams tells her granddaughter/anchor to the Other Side in the TVD trailer. This must be the trouble in supernatural purgatory we’ve been hearing so much. Three guesses as to who is involved? We’ll give you a hint: their hobbies include collecting doppelganger blood and chanting…

“You think the Travelers are about to make their move?” we hear Luke, aka newbie witch Liv’s brother ask in the promo. “Their leader Markos is here.” Yikes! We knew the Travelers were about to reveal their evil agenda, but somehow hearing it hinted at in the promo makes it feel all the more imminent. What are the Travelers planning to do with the Other Side?

Of course, a plot involving the supernatural purgatory isn’t all bad news considering we have quite a few beloved former characters over there. The tease that we will be seeing some of our faves return has us excited. According to the IMDB page for this week's episode — Season 5 Episode 17 ("Rescue Me"), we'll get to see Nadia (Olga Fonda) and her dead ex-boyfriend Gregor again. That being said, there are other reports that go as far as saying we'll get to see Kol (Nathaniel Buzolic) and Grams (Jasmine Guy) as well. Could this be the return of our favorite spunky Mikaelson? We really hope so.

What do you think the Travelers are planning to do with the Other Side? Which former characters do you think will return? Which characters do you want to return? Sound off in the comments below!

The Vampire Diaries airs Thursday nights at 8 p.m. ET on The CW.
