Although The Bachelorette Season 9 is still in its nascent stages, it seems that everyone has an opinion on resident rabblerouser Ben Scott. Homie showed up on the 2013 premiere with son Brody in tow, and instantly became a target for all the guys in the house. And while we haven’t decided whether we love the guy for playing the game like a champ, or are just giving him extra credit for having such a cute kid, we do know one thing: he doesn’t end up with Desiree Hartsock.
Yep, you read that right. Though we’re sure applications for being Brody’s step-mom are coming in left and right, not a one of em is coming from Des. So far, she’s talked about how much they have in common, in their mutual love of fishing, hunting, camping, and all that. And though Ben comes from similarly humble beginnings, he and Des eventually hit a bump in Germany.
According to Reality Steve, it’s the dreaded 2-on-1 date that finally does Ben in, when he and new nemesis Mike Garofola go on a hot tub boat date. Yep, nothing says romance like two dudes who don’t get along crammed in with a girl in a confined space in the middle of a freezing lake... Actually, that doesn’t sound like the worst Bachelorette date in history...
But essentially, even though Ben has so far kept his head up and his hating down, taking advantage of Des’s obvious attraction to him by sneaking extra time, she chooses Mike G on the date, leaving Ben to hop a plane back to the States, on the first non-US stop.
And, if you’re confused about what happened, you can take comfort in knowing it might not have been the difficult choice we imagine it was for Des. As Ali Fedotowsky so insightfully put it, “Let's face it, you either know who you are sending home before the date or you bring two people you're not into at all so you don't care who goes home. Think about it: Why would you ever bring two people that you really like, knowing you have to send one of them home? Makes no sense.” Preach.
