Vampire Diaries Spoilers: Julie Plec Teases “A Lot of Treats” For the 100th Episode

As if we needed another reason to anticipate The Vampire Diariesmilestone 100th episode (aka Season 5, Episode 11: “500 Years of Solitude”). The episode already promises the return of familiar faces, a potential death, and a whole lot of Katherine (Nina Dobrev) drama. But TVD executive producer Julie Plec is promising more. What did she take to Twitter to tease?

“Talking to WBTV and CW about fun press and promo plans for the #TVD100. You guys are in for a lot of treats! Start the countdown to Jan 23,” Julie tweeted yesterday. Sure, the tease itself doesn’t promise any specific plot points about the climactic ep, but we’re guessing these “promo plans” will include many a glimpse into what’s going down in the 100th ep — maybe even some clues about which “familiar faces” will be returning?

So far, we know that the episode will be a “trip down memory lane,” more specifically in regards to 500-year-old Katherine Pierce. Not only does the title clue us into the focus, but we’ve heard from multiple sources that this is a big episode for Katherine. And we’re actively trying not to think about how that might translate to Katherine’s death...

We also know that we will be getting some 19th century flashbacks and presumably some flashbacks from other points in Katherine’s 500-year existence. An entire episode dedicated to Katherine’s life story would be cool with us, but we’re guessing those pesky other characters might want to be part of the storyline, as well. In the promo, we see them sharing their “favorite” memories of the wayward vamp-turned-human. You know: some fond recollections of the time she killed them. Yes, she has been responsible for multiple characters deaths.

It would be neat to see some Katherine-centric promotions from the CW marketing team in anticipation for the ep, but we’re guessing the campaign will be broader than that: a chance to reflect on the 99 episodes past — and just how far this show, these characters, and the many people behind the making of them have come in five seasons of TVD. We can’t wait!

The Vampire Diaries returns on Thursday, January 23, 2014 at 8 p.m. on The CW.
