Time jumps are all the rage on TV shows these days, and it sounds like Pretty Little Liars is planning one of its own. PLL showrunner Marlene King took to Reddit for an AMA earlier this week, and spilled the beans on an upcoming time jump. What details did she reveal?
“There will be a time jump, it may be on the TV show, or the movies we are starting to talk about, but there will be a time jump,” Marlene teased. “We will ‘jump’ college.”
This is kind of a big deal, guys. We’ve wondered before how PLL would deal with the Liars’ college years, especially given its seeming determination to never let the Liars graduate from high school. Now we know: it won’t. It plans on skipping right over them.
This is an important detail now that we know PLL will be getting a sixth and seventh season. If PLL keeps its original cast, then it seems like at least one of those seasons would have to take place after the time jump, no? To be honest, with the way time passes on this show, we’re never quite sure.
Marlene had this to say about the passage of time in Rosewood: “Time goes VERY SLOWLY in Rosewood. It's almost like a magical element to us, because we want the show to go on for a few more seasons, we move time slowly, but after the Christmas episode time will speed up a little bit and we will get to spring of Senior year more quickly than we've dealt with this Fall.” Not only are we glad Marlene has acknowledged the show's somewhat surreal timeline, but is planning on speeding it up. Before we know it, the core four will be graduated from the college and out in the “real” world— no doubt with “A” hot on their tails.
