It’s here, friends! The Vampire Diaries doppelganger moment we hadn’t even realized we were waiting for: three Petrova doppelgangers in one scene. When will Elena Gilbert (Nina Dobrev), Katherine Pierce (Nina Dobrev), and Amara (Nina Dobrev) be having a three-way chat? Read on to find out!
The big moment happens in Thursday’s episode — Season 5, Episode 7: “Death and the Maiden” — TVD showrunner Julie Plec told TVLine. Julie calls it “the triple-banger,” featuring, “not just one, not just two, but three Nina Dobrevs all in one scene.” In order of seniority that includes: 2,000-year-old Traveler Amara; 500-year-old vamp-turned-human Katherine; and teenaged vamp Elena. That’s quite the spread, and we can’t wait for Nina to pull it off, as she always does, creating distinct sensibilities and mannerisms for each of her doppelganger counterparts.
If “triple-banger” doppelganger scenes sound familiar, you might be a fan of BBC America’s awesome clone drama, Orphan Black. Star Tatiana Maslany has garnered much critical and fan praise for the many clones she plays — often in one scene. But, as Julie points out, this sort of thing is old-hat for Nina, who has been playing multiple characters since Season 1.
“I saw Orphan Black. It’s amazing,” Julie says. “But Nina has been doing that for four years. I want to give Nina her due.” Word.
What can we expect from this scene? “It’s one of my favorite scenes of the entire season — and the last couple seasons,” teased Julie. You had us at “triple-banger,” girl.
Are you as excited for the “triple-banger” as we are? What do you think the doppelgangers will talk about? Sound off in the comments below!
The next episode of The Vampire Diaries airs Thursday, November 14, at 8 p.m. ET on The CW.
