American Idol 2014 Spoilers: Top 8 Song Choices Revealed!

Though Ryan Seacrest usually announces the next week’s theme at the end of every elimination, American Idol producers attempted to keep tonight’s theme (April 2) a bit more hush-hush. Yet thanks to Jena Irene Asciutto, we now know what songs the contestants will be singing — and we’ve actually heard them once before!

While speaking with AfterBuzz TV following the Top 9 performance, Jena let it slip that the singers will be taking on the tunes they first sung for the judges. “Next week is audition songs,” she revealed. “It’s there to see how much we’ve grown from that time period to now.”

It’s certainly fun to see how much the hopefuls have improved over the last few months, but this could be a tricky one, especially for the contestants who sang their own songs. As a matter of fact, three of the Top 8 singers busted out original numbers: Alex Preston, Caleb Johnson, and Jessica Meuse. While it gives these singers the advantage of showing off their artistry, they’re also the most likely to perform them in the same way they did before.

In case you don’t remember what songs the contestants first belted for the judges, here’s a reminder:

Alex Preston - "Fairy Tale” (Original) Watch his audition!
CJ Harris - "Soulshine” by The Allman BrothersWatch his audition!
Caleb Johnson - "Into the Void” (Original) Watch his audition!
Dexter Roberts - "Drive” by Casey JamesWatch his audition!
Jena Irene Asciutto - "Rolling in the Deep” by Adele Watch her audition!
Jessica Meuse - "Blue-Eyed Lie” (Original) Watch her audition!
Malaya Watson - "Ain’t No Way” by Aretha Franklin Watch her audition!
Sam Woolf - "Lego House” by Ed SheeranWatch his audition!

One thing that’s interesting to note: American Idol spoiler site The Idol Pad has Caleb and Dexter singing different songs than the ones they performed in their auditions. (TIP lists Caleb taking on “Chain of Fools” by Aretha Franklin, while Dexter is supposedly singing “One Mississippi” by Brett Eldredge.) We can’t imagine while they’d be the only contestants allowed to switch up their choices, but we guess we’ll just have to wait and see what happens!
