Game of Thrones Spoilers: What Happens in Meereen?

On Game of Thrones, you may be wondering what happens next in the city of Meereen now that Daario has peed in their general direction. Well, wonder no more, we’ve got the details!

Warning! This article contains spoilers from the A Song of Ice and Fire book series, click away now if you don’t want to know!

Disclaimer: Of course, the show may change the story from the books. We'll have to wait and see exactly how this plays out.

In the books, Dany batters at the walls of Meereen to little avail before deciding to send in a small contingent of soldiers, led by Sers Barristan and Jorah, through the city’s sewers to free the city’s slaves and open its gates. This is similar, except for the sewer part, to how the show treated Dany’s invasion of Yunkai, so they may invent an entirely new way for Dany to take the city. After what we saw at the end of Episode 3, she may have inspired the slaves to take the city themselves.

Once in control of Meereen, Dany hears that chaos has erupted in Astapor in the wake of her leaving the city. She decides to be a more responsible leader, and declares herself Queen of Meereen, pledging to stick around until the city is stable. Stability is an issue though, with a slave master loyalist group known as the Sons of the Harpy killing Unsullied soldiers and civilians each night as a message to Dany that she’s not welcome. As a way to bring about peace, Dany considers a marriage into one of Meereen’s slave master families.

Two major developments also occur in Meereen relating to Dany’s posse. She and Daario finally give in to temptation and begin an affair and Ser Jorah is expelled from her camp. In the books, Jorah is exiled after Dany finds out he was spying for Robert Baratheon when he first came to her, but the show may come up with a different reason for his expulsion. Don’t be surprised if it ends up being related to his growing jealousy of Daario.
