For anyone who’s done their Vampire Diaries doppelganger math, it seems the citizens of Mystic Falls are short one Paul Wesley-faced doppelganger -- at least if Tessa’s story that the universe periodically creates both a Silas and Amara doppelganger to fall in love with one another. Right now, we have two Amara doppelgangers in Elena and Katherine, but only one Silas doppelganger in Stefan. What gives? Executive producer Julie Plec talked to TV Line about the missing doppelganger.
“You have to ask yourself: Was it Katherine and Stefan that perhaps were fated and there’s another doppelganger yet to come? You never know,” Julie said. “The key thing is that’s what the universe supposedly says. Is the universe real? Is the universe right? Or is it just one big prophecy and it got bastardized over the years? That’s going to be part of the fun of seeing how their relationships all move forward.”
Personally, we’re always for more Paul Wesley-played characters. We’ve had so much fun watching him play both Silas and Amnesiac Stefan. We can only imagine what he could do with another personality.
On the other hand, there are an awful lot of doppelgangers currently kicking around Mystic Falls -- and, with the introduction of each one, comes a little more confusion. We’d be up for another doppelganger, but only if he was introduced in an interesting and decisive way.
The third option, of course, is that Tessa’s tale of a universe intent on bringing together doppelgangers is a load of crock, told and believed as a way to justify Silas having chosen Amara over herself. For all you Delena shippers out there, this is probably the outcome you should be rooting for. Though, we kind of like the idea of Delena overcoming destiny…
