UPDATE: Stana Katic, Nathan Fillion Break Silence on ‘Castle’ Shake-Up

UPDATE (04/20/2016 at 9:30 a.m.):

Rumors may suggest Castle stars Stana Katic and Nathan Fillion "despise" each other (see below), but the actors have nothing but nice things to say in public.

Richard Castle's real-life alter-ego finally broke his silence on his tv leading lady's exit with a lengthy, thoughtful Twitter post.

“Stana has been my partner all this time," he wrote, "and I thank her for creating the character of Beckett who will live on for all of us as one of the greatest police officers on television.

"I wish her well, and have no doubt she will succeed in everything she pursues. She will be missed."

Stana, 37, had a much breezier social media statement, focusing on the fans — but still sparing Nathan, 45, from any bashing.

"To the fans: thank you for your support," she wrote. "I love you."

Even Molly C. Quinn, who plays Castle's daughter Alexis, also had something to say, giving fans hope.

"It'll be different, way way way different, but it is #Castle @NathanFillion IS Castle," the 22-year-old assured fans about a prospective Season 9, which isn't promised yet.

"But if we come back, I promise @NathanFillion will bring all of you a damn fine show."

UPDATE (04/19/2016 at 11:05 a.m.):

Details of behind-the-scenes drama has started to leak following the shocking announcement of Stana Katic's Castle exit.

The ABC drama's No. 1 duo apparently hated each other so much off-screen, they were forced to seek professional help.

"Stana Katic and Nathan Fillion completely despise each other," an insider told Us Weekly. "They will not speak when they are off-set, and this has been going on for seasons now.

"This season, it got so out of hand they made Stana and Nathan go to couples counseling together."

Unfortunately for #Caskett fans, it seems the co-stars’ alleged sessions did no good, as Kate Beckett's portrayer, 37, has decided to leave the show — and her sparring partner, 45 — for good after Season 8.

Kate Beckett’s portrayer will exit her co-lead spot at the end of Season 8, TVLine reports. ABC’s powers-that-be apparently made the decision in a move to cut costs for the ageing procedural.

“Rather than distract from what was an amazing experience,” Stana, 37, said in a statement, “I would just like to say that I’m very grateful to ABC for giving me the opportunity to be a part of a much beloved show.”

Die-hard viewers got some love too, as she added, “Thank you to the fans.”

Original cast member Tamala Jones — who plays Captain Beckett’s best friend, M.E. Lanie Parish — is also out at the end of the current season.

If Castle is renewed for its ninth run — which the Alphabet Net has yet to do — fans will clearly be watching a very different series this fall.

Like Stana, Nathan Fillion’s one-year contract extension from last year is up and open for negotiation.

The Season 8 finale, titled “Crossfire,” will bring the dangerous LokSat investigation to a close, putting Beckett and Richard Castle’s lives in “jeopardy,” according to showrunner Terence Paul.

At least it sounds like Stana will get the send-off she deserves!

Castle airs Mondays at 10 p.m. ET on ABC.
