Dance Moms Star Abby Lee Miller’s Mother Passes Away From Cancer
Sad news, Dance Moms fans. Abby Lee Miller’s mother, Maryen Lorrain Miller (aka “The Original Dance Mom”) passed away February 8 after losing her battle with colon cancer. She was 86 years old.
Abby Lee spoke of her mom’s ailing health during the Dance Moms Cares special in January, which featured a moving dance tribute to Maryen as performed by the ALDC troupe at a benefit for the Dancers Care Foundation.
The outspoken dance teacher/reality star took to social media to break the news of her mother’s passing: “You will be missed. #WeLoveYouMaryenLorrain.” Abby Lee’s previous Instagram update, which featured a pic of her mom from back in the day, called for prayers and thoughts as Maryen performed her “last dance.”
Maryen, who opened her first dance studio in 1945, founded the Maryen Lorrain School of Dance — the school that would eventually become Reign Dance Productions — in the 1960s. Beloved by the students and moms of ALDC, Maryen will be missed by many with several of Abby’s students took to Twitter to offer condolences.
One student, Maddie Ziegler, posted a sweet picture of the Abby Lee Dance Company’s dowager empress on Instagram, writing, “She was like the grandma I never had. I’m terribly sad and wish I could say good bye. I love you so much and wish I could hug you right now. @therealabbylee.”
