Scandal Star Columbus Short Gets Into Bar Fight Over Wife (UPDATE: Has He Finally Confessed?)

UPDATE: Was Columbus Short telling the truth when he recently pleaded not guilty to punching someone at a bar? TMZ has obtained a text that the former Scandal star reportedly sent to his victim on the night of the March incident. In the text, Columbus apparently confessed to punching the man and to being in the wrong.

"I'm so sorry and completely disappointed in myself," the text reads. "I know im texting and incriminating myself but I have to own what I did wrong in that situation."

As you may know, things haven't gone so well for Columbus since this altercation, as he won't be returning to Scandal for Season 4.

Original story (3/25/2014): Scandal star Columbus Short (aka Harrison Wright) seems to have gotten himself in a bit of a scandalous situation. The on-screen Gladiator was allegedly involved in a March 15 bar fight that left a man unconscious!

According to TMZ, Columbus and several friends were at Gabe’s Bar and Grill in L.A. celebrating a friend’s engagement, when another partygoer got into a verbal altercation with Columbus about Columbus’ wife. Witnesses told TMZ that the other guy offended Columbus when he made the comment, "You might be richer than me but I get my girls to buy me everything I want including your wife."

Low blow. Especially when you consider that Columbus and his wife, Tanee McCall-Short, filed for divorce last year. That said, the couple are still legally married and it’s thought they’re working on saving their marriage.

Witnesses say Columbus sucker punched the rude commentator, who fell to the ground. Columbus then allegedly continued to punch the 37-year-old victim until the victim “looked dead” and vanished from the scene quickly there after.

The ambulance took the victim — who suffered a broken nose and was rendered unconscious for several minutes — to a nearby hospital. Police are now investigating the incident as criminal battery.

Apparently this isn’t the first time Columbus has gotten physical — in March 2010, the “Stomp the Yard” actor got into a scuffle with a basketball player at an L.A. fitness gym, knocking out several of the man’s teeth.

TMZ reached out to Columbus for comment, but the actor didn’t reply. Where is Olivia Pope when you need her?
