Seventeen-year-old pop artist Lorde can be a divisive subject, and one Vampire Diariesstar is weighing in on her music. Which TVDer called her album one-note?
David Anders (John Gilbert) took to Twitter to give his opinion on the Kiwi singer: “I like her, I really do, but at some point @lordemusic is gonna have to sing a different song. Same s—t different Track #. Whole Album,” David tweeted yesterday.
We understand where you’re coming from, David, but we may be in a fight about this. Though we think Lorde’s sound can be repetitive — she uses a lot of the same formulaic traits to shape her tracks — we think the overall effect is one of thematic coherence more than monotonous repetition. Many of her tracks have distinct flavors that inspire a unique musical experience. While “Royals” is the perfect track for the ironic partier, “Bravado” comes off as more of a contemplative ballad.
And we think TVD might agree! Lorde has been featured frequently on the Season 5 soundtrack, and in a variety of different scenes. “Royals” popped up in the Season 5 premiere, played as Elena heads off to college. “Love Club” came in Season 5, Episode 10 while Matt is training Katherine in the woods. And “Bravado” was played in Season 5, Episode 12 as Matt and Tyler chat after their disastrous party and Katherine kills the Traveler who completed the passenger spell. We say bring on the Lorde!
