Game of Thrones Star Defends Show’s Controversial Sex Scenes
Game of Thrones has often come under fire for its frequent graphic (some say exploitative) sex scenes, but one of the show’s stars is coming to its defense.
Nathalie Emmanuel, who plays Missandei on the hit HBO fantasy drama, tells the U.K.’s Daily Star, "Everyone is entitled to their own opinion and if [the nudity is] too much for you then that's fine. But in the books it's very raw and real and that's why a lot of people love the show. It's not afraid to push the boundaries and make you feel shocked or angry.” She goes on to add, “The sex scenes make it realistic and authentic, it's something the show does really well.”
It’s worth noting that Nathalie herself has not performed any nude scenes on the show, but she is open to the idea, stating, “It depends on the scene, but I'm not ashamed of my body. It's very normal, I'm playing a character. Sometimes you're naked in your everyday life. For me it's not a big deal.”
Seeing how Nathalie’s book counterpart is only 10 years old, we kind of hope the show doesn’t write in any sex scenes for her. That would be just too creepy for those of us who can't forget the book version.
