Chris Colfer to Star in Movie Based on Playwright Noel Coward’s Life

We’re starting to think that this extended hiatus between Glee’s fifth and sixth seasons maybe something of a blessing in disguise for many of the actors on the long running FOX show. When news broke on Monday, May 12, that Season 6 would be delayed until the midseason break (sometime in early 2015) we were pretty bummed, but it looks like this unprecedented lengthy break could be good in the long run.

For one, it gives co-creator Ryan Murphy and his team extra time to create a truly stellar final season, and the longer than usual hiatus also means the show’s stars will be more free to expand their artistic horizons, something that Chris Colfer (Kurt) has apparently already taken advantage of. reports that Chris is attached to star in Noel (working title) a biopic about the famed British playwright and producer Noel Coward. Noel penned classics including Private Lives and Blithe Spirit, and worked on films such as Brief Encounter and In Which We Serve. He is described as “famously flamboyant” which we know Chris can pull off seamlessly having played Kurt for five seasons on Glee.

Bent writer Martin Sherman completed the script, and well-known actors Sir Ian McKellen, Vanessa Redgrave, and Jonathan Pryce are in talks to join the cast. British director Joe Stephenson is slated to be behind the camera.

Production on Noel is tentatively expected to start in late summer in the United Kingdom. Had Glee Season 6 been given a September start date Chris would have never been able to adhere to that schedule, but it’s obviously a different story now.
