Darren Criss to Star in New Transformers Animated Series

Glee's Darren Criss (Blaine) continues his transformation into a multi-faceted Hollywood star.

As the Glee cast nears completion on the show's fifth season, Darren has signed on to voice a character in an upcoming Transformers animated TV series. It is currently in production and will premiere in early 2015 on the Hub Network. Meanwhile, Transformers: Age of Extinction hits the big screen in June.

The new series takes place after the Autobot-Decepticon battle of the recently completed Hub animated series, Transformers: Prime. The show will focus on Bumblebee voiced by Boy Meets World's Will Friedle as he helms a new team of Autobots. Also joining the show's voice cast are Hope & Faith's Ted McGinley and House of Cards' Constance Zimmer.

We think this is a smart move for Darren, whose star was not exactly launched with last summer's Kristen Wiig film, Girl Most Likely. Voicing a role on an action series is likely to help him court an audience that may not be familiar with his musical Fox series.

Indeed, a number of Glee stars seem to be having more success landing roles with just their voices lately. Lea Michele (Rachel) voices the title role in Legends of Oz: Dorothy's Return, hitting theaters this May, while Chris Colfer (Kurt) will voice a canine character in the upcoming film Robodog.

Do you think this Transformers series is a wise career choice for Darren?
