Ever since Disney acquired George Lucas’ production company — and the rights to the Star Wars franchise — rumors have been swirling about the new trilogy of films, especially casting for Episode VII. But now director J.J. Abrams is speaking out and clearing up the speculation.
J.J. revealed that the script for the seventh film has been completed and that he’s moving ahead with full force.
“We’re working really hard and we’ve got our script and we’re in deep prep,” the director said. “Full steam ahead, y’know.” Don’t you worry, J.J., we’re readying our lightsabers and firing up the Millenium Falcon.
The Star Trek director was speaking at the Television Critics Association winter press tour Sunday promoting his new NBC series, Believe. While he was busy talking about the show, it didn’t take much effort to get him talking about his Star Wars duties, and the rumor that he has approached Breaking Bad and Friday Night Lights alum Jesse Plemons for a lead role in the sci-fi film.
“He is one of the actors that we’ve talked to, yeah,” J.J. confirmed. “It’s not often that I read about actors that I’m going to be meeting … that I get to read articles about actors who are going to come in. And so I get to see someone say, ‘Oh, I read that I’m going to see you.’ … It’s usually agents talking to people about what’s happening. It’s a lot of noise.”
We think Jesse would be a perfect fit for the new Star Wars film. We stand behind that 100 percent. So far the force is definitely strong with J.J. and his big plans for the new trilogy.
