Once Upon a Time is extending the family tree this November as Rumplestiltskin’s father joins the hit fairytale drama.
While we’ve known for a while that Rumple’s pop, Colin, would be appearing in Episode 8, we didn’t know his true identity — until now. TV Guide reports that British actor Stephen Lord (known for EastEnders and the U.K. version of Shameless) has been cast, first appearing in the November 17 episode.
Previously there was a report that Colin would also return in Episode 11 (aka the midseason finale), but there’s no confirmation whether that will be another flashback or him resurfacing in present day.
In addition to Colin’s descriptors — “dissatisfied, self-centered, and ruthless” — he was known to be cowardly, something Rumple desperately tried not to be. However, as we’ve seen, he can’t always escape his fate. After the seer prophesied he would die in battle, he intentionally injured himself, and in turn was told about his “undoing” by Henry. Clearly, Rumple can’t catch a break.
As for their twisted family tree now? Rumple wants to shake his past, becoming a better father than he had.
“This is a man who wants to break the cycle of his past. He wants to be a good father, but it's like, that quote, ‘I can resist everything but temptation.’ That's also his weakness,” Eddy told reporters recently, to which Adam stressed, “He's getting drawn into doing terrible things.”
We can’t wait to see these two interact. What do you think of the casting? Sound off below.
Once Upon a Time airs Sundays at 8 p.m. ET on ABC.
