Steven Soderbergh Will Direct Chloe Moretz in Off-Broadway Play The Library

Between Chloe Grace Moretz's starring role in last year's Carrie and her forthcoming off-Broadway play with Steven Soderbergh about a school shooting, she's not having an easy time in make-believe high school!

The Hollywood Reporter touts that the 16-year-old actress will star in the new play The Library, which will be helmed by the veteran film director. She'll play a survivor of a deadly school shooting — whose involvement in the tragedy becomes clearer and clearer in the ensuing investigation and media firestorm.

"I wanted to write a play about the stories we tell each other in the face of calamity — the pretty lies and the brutal truths," said writer Scott Z. Burns. "This is something Steven and I have discussed over the last decade while making movies. What is the value of truth? What is the cost of a lie?"

Scott and Steven have collaborated thrice before — Scott having written the Soderbergh films The Informant, Contagion, and Side Effects. Steven's other notable work of late includes Magic Mike, Behind the Candelabra, and the Ocean's Eleven series.

This will be the off-Broadway debut for all three artists: Chloe, Steven, and Scott. Should it do well, it has the potential to make the leap to Broadway. Even if not, it sounds like a project that will captivate theatergoers and elevate the careers of all involved.
