If there’s one celebrity out there that is a lightning rod for controversy, it’s Kanye West. Not only did he interrupt our gal Taylor Swift during her 2009 MTV VMA speech (no, we’re still not over it), but the rapper is constantly saying outlandish things that land him atop the list of celebs that need to think before they speak. But in a shocking turn of events, it sounds like Kanye is going to be keeping quiet — at least for a while.
At his December 23 concert in Toronto, the Yeezus rapper went on a 27-minute-long rant (his specialty), promising concert goers that he will stop saying negative things and stop being controversial for “six months, at least” because he’s tired of the world criticizing him. A respite from his crazy antics? Best Christmas gift ever.
“I decided to completely focus everything in 2014 on all the new ideas and all the creative outlets,” Kanye said on-stage, bringing up the little spats he had with Nike earlier this year, now vowing that he will only bring up the brand in a “positive light.” Honestly, we’ll believe it when we see it.
And while this may sound like one of Kanye’s average rants, there was an undertone that was extremely sweet. We would assume that a real driving force behind this decision is so that he can spend more time with his two great loves: his music and his family — which includes bride-to-be Kim Kardashian and their daughter, North West.
“I just really feel like I want to be expressive with my work, with my music,” Kanye concluded. “I want to be expressive with this opportunity I have with Adidas, and just go home to my family.” Cue the “awws,” everyone!
