American Idol Season 7 Finalist Syesha Mercado Sued By Her Former Manager — For HOW Much?
Former American Idol finalist Syesha Mercado's former manager is trying to throw the book at her. Indeed, the manager is claiming Syesha owes him big money for allegedly helping her land a role in the smash theatrical hit The Book of Mormon.
Syesha — who came in third on Idol Season 7 in 2008, behind David Cook and David Archuleta — is being sued by former manager Fred Crawford, according to TMZ. Fred claims that he helped her land her current role as Nabulungi in the Broadway production of Mormon. He says Syesha promised to pay him 20% of her earnings.
Fred alleges that Syesha dropped him as a manager just after she signed the Book of Mormon deal, for which she is now earning $40,000 a month. He says she cut off communication with him and hasn't paid him a thing, so he's suing for what he feels is his cut, which is about $300,000. Yowza.
However, it might be tricky for Fred to prove that he's owed that money. After all, he admits that their deal was never agreed upon in writing. Gulp.
Prior to landing on Broadway, Syesha had performed in the Chicago version of Book of Mormon since December 2012. Before that, she played Deena Jones in a national touring production of Dreamgirls from 2009 to 2010. So it's great to know that she's having such success, this lawsuit notwithstanding.
Do you think her former manager will win the lawsuit?
