‘Tales From the Crypt’ Snags TV Reboot With M. Night Shyamalan!
Get ready to scream your hearts out — popular ‘90s horror show Tales From the Crypt is getting new life!
TNT is rebooting the hit HBO late-night series and have tasked thriller director M. Night Shyamalan with the job of curating the show.
Variety reports TNT president Kevin Reilly announced the news at the Television Critics Association on January 7.
Calling it an “umbrella for what hopefully will be many shows,” Kevin said the Tales From the Crypt brand will house “a variety of different genre shows, some of which may have a weird sense of humor, some of which may be actually downright frightening, some of which may be a unique blend of genres.”
Tales From the Crypt will lead a new two-hour block suspense and terror block of programming with an hour-long episode featuring both long and short-form storytelling executive produced by M. Night and his Binding Edge Pictures partner, Ashwin Rajan.
M.Night will likely direct the first episode.
The plots for Tales will be based on the William Gaines’ original EC Comics as well as some original stories, but will not be based on the original series.
It also appears the ever-punny Crypt Keeper (voiced by John Kassir) won’t be a part of the series’ reboot. John even alluded to such on Twitter:
Not sure yours Ghoulie, the Crypt Keeper, as you know him/us will be involved. The puppet is not part of the TFTC licensing. We'll see....John Kassir (@JohnKassir) January 7, 2016
I'll go on record, "Crypt Keeper as we know him is more popular than ever & it'd be a sham/shame not to have him host the show!!!!!John Kassir (@JohnKassir) January 7, 2016
For now, it appears the horror block will just include episodes of Tales From the Crypt with other series to be added later on.
TNT will be rolling out their new terror TV block in fall 2016. Prepare to be scared!
