‘Flip or Flop’ Star Tarek El Moussa Gets an Update on His Cancer
It’s been a difficult year for Tarek El Moussa.
So when the Flip or Flop star went in to check up on his previous cancer diagnosis, a lot was at stake.
Three years ago, the HGTV host was diagnosed with stage 2 thyroid cancer, after a viewer noticed a lump on his neck.
He then had his thyroid and lymph nodes removed and underwent iodine radiation treatment. Soon after, the now-35-year-old went into remission.
This week, Tarek was examined to see if he remains cancer-free — this coming off of weeks of tabloid stories around his impending divorce from wife and co-host Christina El Moussa.
While things on the relationship front might be rocky, the reality star now has at least one less thing to worry about.
On Wednesday, January 25, he revealed he is cancer-free, revealing the good news on Instagram via a text exchange with his doctor.
"So far all labs look great," his doctor writes.
Still #cancer #free!!!! Having cancer is a very scary thing... I always get nervous going into each check up and today I got GREAT news!! Having no thyroid and balancing medications is tough! I'm finally at UCLA and I'm on the right doses of medication.. People don't know but I was very over medicated with rapid heart rate and palpitations to the point where I wore a heart rate monitor... It really messed me up but today everything is dialed and I finally feel great after 3 years!!
“Nothing to suggest any badness from your thyroid cancer which is great news. I'll let you know any other results as I get them.”
He then follows up later with more details.
The doc adds, “Your ultrasound was pristine. No thyroid issue and nothing suspicious in your neck. It is great news.”
Hooray! Though the issues between him and Christina remain, this is still great for the couple’s young children, Taylor, 6, and Brayden, 17 months.
Alongside the screenshot, the father of two includes an emotional caption.
“Still #cancer #free!!!! Having cancer is a very scary thing... I always get nervous going into each check up and today I got GREAT news!!” he starts.
He continues, "Having no thyroid and balancing medications is tough! … People don't know but I was very over medicated [sic] with rapid heart rate and palpitations to the point where I wore a heart rate monitor.”
Sounds like the problems have since been mitigated, though.
“It really messed me up but today everything is dialed and I finally feel great after 3 years!!" he concludes, commending his new team at UCLA for their help.
Interestingly, reports have cited the house flipper’s quick-changing moods as one of the factors in the couple’s split.
“The mood differs day to day, but Christina avoids Tarek. He does things to piss her off, like bragging loudly about sleeping with girls,” a source tells Us Weekly.
“[Christina] thinks Tarek is an absolute pig.”
Oh dear. Well, hopefully this good news can help the two work through things civilly and continue to co-parent. It’s all about the kids, now!
