Target Won’t Sell Beyonce’s New Album — Find Out Why!
In what was possibly one of the most impressive career moves ever, Beyonce once again proved herself to be Queen B when she dropped her album Friday at midnight without telling a single soul.
Who’s not impressed? Target — they’re refusing to sell her brand new self-titled album, because the physical CD wasn’t released at the same time as the digital one.
“At Target we focus on offering our guests a wide assortment of physical CDs, and when a new album is available digitally before it is available physically, it impacts demand and sales projections,” a spokesperson for Target, Erica Julkowski, told Billboard.
We’ve got a feeling Beyonce isn’t too broken up about it, though — the album is already set to take its rightful throne at number one, proving her gutsy move paid off. It’s a huge risk for an artist to take to release an album with no promotion, but Beyonce has already sold over 500,000 copies, speaking volumes about her star power.
“While there are many aspects that contribute to our approach and we have appreciated partnering with Beyonce in the past, we are primarily focused on offering CDs that will be available in a physical format at the same time as all other formats,” Erica added. “At this time, Target will not be carrying Beyonce's new self-titled album Beyonce.”
Don’t worry, Beyonce fans — if you want a physical copy of the epic album, Walmart promises to have the album in stock by the end of the week.
