Patrick Dempsey to Teach Students Philanthropy in Online Course

There’s no way around it: College classes can be a total drag. But for many of us, it’s a necessary evil in order to take the career paths we want — and to earn that extra moola that might not be ours otherwise.

Fortunately, learning is about to get a lot more interesting for Grey’s Anatomy fans. Our very own McDreamy is about to take off his scrub cap in favor of taking his spot at the front of the classroom. Patrick Dempsey (Derek Shepherd) has officially signed on to lend his services to an online philanthropy class on effective giving, according to Associated Press.

And what makes the class really unique — besides, you know, being taught by Patrick Dempsey — is that students will be given the opportunity to help decide how to give away at least $100,000 of class contributor Warren Buffet’s sister’s money. Patrick definitely knows a thing or two about philanthropy. He launched the Dempsey Center For Cancer Hope & Healing to provide resources and support for families dealing with the life-altering disease.

The class, sponsored by Doris Buffet’s Learning By Giving foundation, is free and will be taught by Northeastern University professor Rebecca Riccio. It starts April 2 and is open to anyone over the age of 13 who wants to take it, so if you want to learn from stars like Patrick and baseball legend Cal Ripken, Jr., this is your big chance!

“I believe that philanthropy can drive change by empowering everybody in the room to play a role,” Patrick said.

So, what do you think: Suddenly inspired to learn or will you be skipping out on this one? Comment below!
