Teen Beat Tuesday: Erik Von Detten

Teen Beat, Tiger Beat, 16, Bop: these tween rags introduced us to all our first crushes. Every Tuesday, we remember the dudes that decorated our photo binders. This week: master of hair gel, Erik Von Detten.

Name: Erik Von Detten

We Called Him: EVD!

How Old Is He Now? 30! (Born October 3, 1982)

Erik is a little younger than some of his middle-part brethren, but we have a theory that the middle part ended because nobody could do middle part better than EVD. Nobody. Not even our Ultimate Fantasy Husband For Life Rider Strong.

Claims to Fame: EVD rose to prominence as a Disney star, like many now-famous hotties! He started out in So Weird, but when the power of his perfectly greasy hair and dumb puppy eyes threatened to break our television sets, they gave him his own Disney Channel Original Movie — one of the best of all time. Maybe even better than High School Musical. We are, of course, talking about the rollerblade epic, Brink.

He would later head up a sitcom on ABC’s TGIF lineup (a perfect addition, if you ask us) for one season, starring in Odd Man Out, about a charmingly idiotic and ridiculously hot boy living with his mom and sisters.

Why We Loved Him: He just kind of rolled with it, man. Whether it was being surrounded by women, like on Odd Man Out, or he was quite literally rolling, like on rollerblades.

His typecast role was prone to confusion, but he didn’t really care what people around him thought. With the exception of The Princess Diaries, of course.

Man, that really backfired. (But he was still hot, so whatever.)

His characters’ constant foot-in-mouth disease made you want to shelter him. Maybe even make him a grilled cheese sandwich.

And once he hit early adulthood, he loved running around without a shirt on.

Let’s be real though: he’s been cool ever since the 1995 Escape to Witch Mountain remake with Mad Men’s Elisabeth Moss.

What He’s Up to Now: Well, Toy Story 3. Because we don’t know if you know this, but he played sadistic toy-destroyer Sid in the first one, so he made a brief cameo as adult Sid, now a garbage man. But hey, he looked super adorable bringing a young guest (his son, maybe!?) to the premiere!

He also guest starred on an episode of Bones, provided a voice in an episode of Family Guy, and had a major supporting role in the Lifetime original movie Girl, Positive as a jock who gives the daughter fromDesperate Housewives HIV.

We think maybe he’s slowed down on the acting a bit, but hey, why not? He already made Brink, so he can relax for a few years.
