Teen Beat, Tiger Beat, 16, Bop: these tween rags introduced us to all our first crushes. Every Tuesday, we remember the dudes that decorated our photo binders. This week: all-purpose hottie Andrew Keegan.
Name: Andrew Keegan
We Called Him: … Andrew Keegan.
How Old Is He Now: 34 (Born January 29, 1979)
Claims to Fame: Oh, just everything in the '90s. You couldn't throw a rock in the New Releases section (or a pebble at your TV Guide) without hitting something with Andrew Keegan in it for a minute.
Today he's probably best-known for his role as dumb but popular model Joey Donner in 10 Things I Hate About You, but he's also known for playing Michael Cassio in the teen drama Othello adaptation O, Wilson West in 7th Heaven, and as Reed Isley in Party of Five. He first strutted his way into our hearts as Zack Dell, the kid saved from military camp in Camp Nowhere.
He also had small or single-episode roles on Boy Meets World, Sabrina the Teenage Witch, Moesha, Step By Step, and even the film Independence Day. Dude was freaking everywhere.
Why We Loved Him: There's not much to report on here as much as typecasting goes — so reasons we loved him personality-wise are on a case-by-case basis, although he was always a little cocky. But there was a common thread: attractiveness.
He was adorable in Camp Nowhere, which got him some teen rag pictorials back when the slightly-overgrown, flowing hair was all the rage.
His popularity rose from there, and he became a fixture in Teen Beat. Here he is posing with JTT for no apparent reason other than they were both in Teen Beat a lot.
In his recurring role as Wilson West, Mary's on-again, off-again boyfriend on 7th Heaven, dude was kind of a mess — but got it together when he had to be a single dad, which made us go awwwww.
In 10 Things I Hate About You, Andrew played an idiot and a jerk, but he couldn't have pulled off the role without being hot.
For the brainy ladies out there, he got a little Shakespearean in O as Michael Cassius, one of the pawns in Iago's schemes. By that point, it was 2001, so that pretty much marked the end of Andrew's teen movie career, although he did give it one more shot in 2002's A Midsummer Night's Rave.
What He's Up To Now: Andrew Keegan, according to his selfie-filled Twitter account, is "living life." He might be living in Los Angeles, as that is one of many ways to interpret his location, which is listed as "la la land." It'd make sense, since he's still kind of working; he was on a 2012 episode of CSI, and he was in a couple of lower-budget films in the past year or so.
He eats food sometimes, we're guessing, based two things: (a) he's still alive, and (b) he was at James' Beach restaurant in Venice, CA at some point. How do we know that? He sued them for beating him up for no reason — although bouncers claimed he hit them with a motorized skateboard first. Andrew was beat up again in 2011, when six dudes allegedly picked a fight with him outside a charity event. Let's hope he didn't have any nose spray ads to shoot!
Is he married? We don't know, but his ex-girlfriend has a restraining order against him.
Has he done anything cool recently? His stuff with Funny or Die is actually pretty sweet — he made an appearance on Mad Men star Kiernan Shipka's series, Child Star Psychologist, and co-starred in a parody trailer with The Office hottie John Krasinski. A week or so ago, Andrew posted on Twitter that he's "jumping back in the game" with a photo of a screenplay, so maybe we'll see more good stuff from him in the near future.
