The debate over children’s vaccinations continues to be highly controversial, but nobody is more convinced of their harmful effects than Lori Webb, a mom in Salt Lake City, Utah.

According to the Salt Lake City Tribune, Lori’s 19-year-old son Chandler died recently after spending a month in a coma. After performing extensive tests at the Intermountain Medical Center in Murray, Utah, the doctors treating the teen were unable to ascertain exactly why he died. They searched for every cause from Lyme disease to sexually transmitted disease. His mother Lori insists it’s the result of his swine flu vaccination.

Chandler was vaccinated the day before he became severely ill, getting the shot as part of a routine physical that he underwent in order to take part in a missionary trip with The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints.

While they can’t comment on the specific case, doctors say serious side effects of the influenza vaccine are rarely reported. Although Chandler’s parents declined to have an autopsy, the neurologists who treated him said he died from swelling of the brain.

His grieving mother Lori is not stopping until she gets answers. She told the Salt Lake City Tribune, "We’re angry because we believe it’s the flu shot that [caused] it." Utah Department of Health Spokesman Tom Hudachko says the investigation of the case is ongoing. He explained, "Like with other medical procedures, there can be side effects and adverse reactions. In the vast majority of those cases the side effects are not very severe ... occasionally, yes, there are more severe side effects from receiving the vaccine."
