A UK woman was furious after finding a photo of herself on Facebook taken without her knowledge. The picture depicted 27-year-old mom Emily Slough sitting outside a pub, eating a sandwich while breastfeeding her baby girl. The stranger who took the photo referred to her as a “tramp” in his Facebook post.
The Daily Mail reports that Emily was feeding daughter Matilda, 8 months, last Friday in the town of Rugeley, Staffordshire, when the photo was taken without her knowledge. The photographer uploaded the photo to Facebook on the “Spotted Rugeley” page, along with the message, “I know the sun is out n all that but there's no need to let your kid feast on your nipple in town!!! Tramp.”
Understandably outraged, Emily is organizing a mass breastfeeding protest among some using the Twitter hashtag #massfeedingRugeley. She says that this isn’t the first time she’s been criticized for breastfeeding her child, stating that she was once told to "go to a public toilet" instead.
As for the perpetrator of the photo, it’s believed to have been done by an 18-year-old male who was originally inside the Shrew Pub. The owner of the pub, Gavin Houston, dismissed the teen as “some idiot with a cell phone.”
Emily explained to the Mail, “I am very confident and comfortable with my breastfeeding, but I know plenty who aren't and don't even humour the idea of nursing because of some ridiculous stigma attached to it and fear of embarrassment, humiliation and non-acceptance.”
What do you think: should moms be allowed to breastfeed publicly, or is it too much information for some people?
