A Philadelphia mom became a trending news story earlier in the week, when a video showing her nodding off on a city bus as her young daughter tries frantically to keep her upright went viral in a matter of days.
According to Philly.com, the video was posted anonymously on a Facebook page called the "People of Septa," where commenters referred to the mom as “gutter trash” and called for the child to be removed from the mother, even though nobody on the bus bothered to call 911 about the incident — including whoever anonymously shot and posted the 4-and-a-half minute video.
The mother was eventually identified after the video went viral. At that point, Philadelphia's Child Protective Services stepped in to investigate and the daughter was indeed taken into protective custody.
The mother, whose identity remains anonymous because she hasn’t yet been charged with a crime, took to her own Facebook page to post the following heartbreaking rant against the perpetrators of the video and those who commented:
“I f— hope all you skumbags [sic] out there are f— happy. I just lost the best thing in the world to me all because ppl [sic] think before they open there [sic] mouths!"
We can only imagine how painful it must be to have your child taken away from you, and we agree that it’s scummy to post a video but not call the authorities when a child is clearly in danger. Nevertheless, this mom needs some serious help before she can get her little girl back. Here’s hoping that she now gets what she needs and that her daughter remains safe.
