Heather Munsell, a mother-of-two, is redefining graduation day. This weekend she’ll not only receive her master’s degree in public relations from Montana State University Billings, but her son and daughter will also be graduating.

According to TODAY Moms, Heather, age 44, always wanted to go back to school and complete her degree, but life got in the way. Heather and her husband, Jeff, got married in the early 1990s, and had son Joshua, now 22, and daughter, Kelsey, 20, shortly after. Heather ended up leaving college just 13 credits shy of getting her undergraduate degree in fine arts.

"I wanted to check the box saying I graduated from college before my kids could,'' Heather said. Fast-forward to 2014, this mother-of-two — who finished her undergrad during her daughter’s freshman year — is finally making that wish a reality.

Joshua, who is receiving a bachelor’s degree in outdoor adventure leadership and organizational communication, says that he couldn’t be prouder of his mom, "I never expected my mom to go back” he told TODAY. “But she always talked about it, and everything happened to work out…it was really serendipitous and really cool."

Daughter Kelsey will also be receiving a bachelor’s degree, but as a double major in mass communication and organizational communication. As if graduating college all the same time wasn’t enough, MSUB’s communications department even named both mother and daughter the two “most outstanding students.”

Heather’s kids will get their degrees first, and then attend their mom’s commencement afterwards. She is — and rightfully so! — very proud of her children, and of course, her own achievements.

"For me to be part of it is pretty cool,” she added. “I get to be the mom and take the pictures from the gallery like everyone else, and then get my degree."

What an inspiring story! Congrats to the whole family!
