Amber Portwood's explosive memoir, Never Too Late, is officially on the shelves, and it's just as intense, emotional, and dark as we expected. And then some.

Fans of Teen Mom already know that Amber's been through a few rough times (she battled a drug addiction, went to rehab, and served 17 months in prison), but her attempted suicide in 2011 was definitely the most shocking part of the show.

Amber called her baby daddy, Gary Shirley, to tell him about her attempted suicide, and the police found her semi-unconscious. But this was actually the second time Amber tried to take her life — her first attempt was at just 11 years old.

“I couldn’t change what was going on around me, and I couldn’t control that sadness inside of me, either. It was really bad,” Amber writes in an excerpt from RadarOnline.com. “It was so bad, honestly, that when I was eleven I made the first of many extreme attempts to fix it. I tried to kill myself.”

Thankfully, her first attempt didn’t work. Today, this girl is sober and enjoying life with her daughter, and is happy that she never gave up the good fight. “Just a couple short years ago, I thought there was no hope for me," Amber writes.

"I was wrong. There’s never a good reason to give up. There’s always a way to turn things around. You just have to look at someone like me as proof that it’s never too late.”

It's alarming to learn the extent of what Amber's been through, but her story will doubtless help fans who are suffering through similar experiences with drugs and depression.
