Bill and Giuliana Rancic Welcome Son Via Surrogacy — An Acceptable Alternative to Adoption?
Just yesterday, E! News host Giuliana Rancic and her husband, Bill, welcomed baby Edward Duke into the world. But the Fashion Police cohost wasn’t in a hospital gown, and she certainly wasn’t pushing.
After years of trying for a natural birth, the couple opted for a surrogate to carry their child. A breast cancer survivor, Giuliana faced a host of complications and infertility issues before turning to a gestational carrier.
“It was one of the best moments of my life, if not the best moment of my life," Giuliana told Ann Curry on Today. "It's incredible. We've been trying for so long, we've been through so much … And to finally get that call from the doctor, it was just another world, another level."
We’re overjoyed that this determined couple is finally able to have the child they so desperately wanted, but was surrogacy the best option?
There are, after all, plenty of foster children in the world in need of adoption and a loving home. Take, for example, Teen Mom stars Catelynn Lowell and Tyler Baltierra who gave their daughter Carly up for adoption. Though they struggled with their decision throughout the course of the show, they've found comfort knowing Carly is able to grow with certain luxuries they couldn’t have afforded.
So when Giuliana and Bill found out that natural pregnancy wasn’t a possibility, should they have turned to adoption? Tell us what you think below!
