Teen Mom star Amber Portwood is currently behind bars at Rockville Correctional Facility in Indiana serving a 5-year prison sentence after opting out of a court-ordered drug rehab program. Amber's baby daddy Gary Shirley recently paid the 22-year-old a visit on February 19, telling fans she's "doing great" and "looks good." Unfortunately, it doesn't seem like little Leah, 4, accompanied Gary to the prison.
"Wow can't believe it's been a year since Leah seen her mom. Last time was Easter," Gary wrote on Twitter on March 31. As you may recall, Amber entered jail on June 14, 2012.
Naturally, fans were a bit shocked at Gary's confession, considering he promised Dr. Drew he'd take Leah to see her mommy "as soon as possible" … back in October! At the time, Gary claimed there was a problem with the paperwork, a story he stands by six months later.
"Yes ambers wants to see her and its not her fault. Papers were filled out wrong or lost redoing them," Gary told fans this past weekend.
While we give Gary props for doing such a good job raising Leah and providing her with an endless supply of organic vegetables, we must hold him accountable for this lapse in judgment. According to Amber, who sat down with Dr. Drew last year for MTV's Amber Portwood Behind Bars special, Gary received the proper visitation paperwork on multiple occasions. "I think he's trying to protect Leah," Amber concluded.
Dr. Drew called Gary after the interview, urging him to take Leah to see her mom immediately. "I talked to Dr. Drew," Gary revealed back in October. "He said it's really important see their mommy and know they're there." Six months later, Gary has yet to heed Dr. Drew's advice.
