It's been a rough couple of years for Teen Mom 2's Jenelle Evans. Not only has the troubled starlet dealt with abusive ex-boyfriends and emotional custody battles, but she has also struggled with drug addiction — something original Teen Mom Amber Portwood has dealt with in a big way.
This season on Teen Mom 2, we'll see Jenelle's life spiral out of control when she violates her probation — stemming from her 2010 arrest for breaking and entering and drug possession — landing herself in jail again. At the time of the arrest (she was booked on August 8, 2011), Jenelle tested positive for marijuana and opiates.
But that was over a year ago, and now Jenelle is clean and sober. Looking back on the series of wrong turns and bad decisions she made throughout the past couple of years, she's finally able to admit just how self-destructive her behavior had become.
"I needed to be controlled and put to a stop for me to see what was going on in my life," Jenelle told Wetpaint Entertainment in an exclusive interview at MTV Studios in New York City. "You think you're doing OK, but really you're not. You're spiraling out of control. You're out of control."
Jenelle's never had much support from her son Jace's father, nor does she have a particularly stable relationship with her mother Barbara — both of these factors undoubtedly contributing to Jenelle's loss of direction.
"I needed someone to stop me in my tracks," she admitted. "And that's what my probation officer did. She was a blessing in disguise."
These days, it finally seems like Jenelle has turned her life around for good.
"Some of the stuff I see myself doing on TV, I scare myself. Because I'm like, why would I do that? Why would I say something like that?" she revealed. "And now I'm not as impulsive as I was before. Now I don't need someone there telling me what's right and wrong."
