Teen Mom viewers often wonder how much the cast gets paid, especially when they are shown struggling to get by.
For instance, this season of Teen Mom 2, we've seen Leah Messer living in a run-down trailer or Kailyn Lowry petitioning for child support.
When Maci Bookout spoke to students at Kennesaw State University near Atlanta yesterday, it was no surprise that one of the audience members asked how much she gets paid.
"I'm not really supposed to talk about it, but ..." she said. "I still have the normal struggles, like I have to budget and pay my bills. But at the same time, I'm not going to put my entire world on camera for the entire world to see and judge me and take away my privacy ... for free. Nobody works for free."
And though MTV does pay them, Maci said none of the Teen Moms are well-off.
"All these rumors that we're rich and famous .... no," she continued. "I still go to community college. I still go to Wal-Mart. I'm still a normal person that lives in Chattanooga, Tennessee."
