Teen Mom Fans: Should Birth Control Be Covered By Health Insurance?
Real Talk: teen pregnancies are on the decline, but the truth of the matter is that about 750,000 teens get knocked up each year. That's almost one-third of teen girls in the country — including MTV's fabulous Teen Moms!
Even more surprising? The US of A has the highest rate of teen pregnancy, and some say it's because kids these days don't have easy access to birth control.
While places like Planned Parenthood give out free condoms and other birth control methods at a reduced rate, the pill is expensive — especially for teenagers who have no source of income. Though sexually active teens are more likely to use condoms nowadays (especially compared to the roaring '80s), they don't always prevent pregnancy. In short, it's vital that teenagers have a foolproof option!
Should states require health insurance companies to cover birth control? Some peeps think this will encourage teens to have more sex, but hey — whatever keeps these kids from popping out babies left and center, right gang?
