Teen Pregnancy Rates Go Down, Study Credits Teen Mom
Though many critics of Teen Mom and 16 & Pregnant say that the shows glamorize teen pregnancy, a recent study shows just the opposite.
According to The Christian Science Monitor, 77 percent of teens “better understand the challenges of pregnancy and parenting” due, in part, to MTV’s shows.
Teen pregnancy is down 9 percent from 2009 in teens ages 18-19 and down 15 percent in 17-year-olds.
But 23 percent of study participants say the shows make parenting and pregnancy look easy.
With Teen Mom premiering tonight, what do you think about its portrayal of young mothers? Does the show make it look easy? Or is it an accurate representation? Comment below!
